PapaSop thanks. I see a big difference between restaurant supply shops and on line like eBay - as much as 6 to 8 times,
would like a recommendation from a reliable source - like even both the orange and the blue team…
Any cast iron enthusiasts in here? I like to use a 12 in camp dutch oven as well as numerous cast iron skillets. My best skillet is a very old Griswold that I got as a gift.
I use almost nothing but cast iron.
NDMike I enjoy my cast iron. I have a collection of different pieces and keep an eye open for things I can use, I don’t want to have a collection just sitting around on the shelves. I do have a 12 inch deep pan that has the sprue mark that is as solid as the day it was made 100+ years ago. I like the versatility of them
Jonathan seems like we need a cast iron icon as well!
Here are my favorites. All vintage Griswold and Wagonerware!
The old skillets are better finished, smoother and lighter in weight than anything new that can be purchased.
The dutch oven is cast alloy and pretty light.
RJ Adventures that is a great idea!!!
processhead nice! I have some Lodge stuff too. It is rougher finished but it works decent. Nothing like old cast iron though. I even have a Griswold Erie Scotch Bowl that was in my wife’s family. It was her Great Grandmas.
YooperDog yep for sure. The pieces I have I use.
Tex_77 I was willing to bet you were a cast iron guy!
Do you guys watch Cowboy Kent Rollins on YouTube. He has great recipes and cooks on cast iron all the time.
NDMike yes I catch his channel from time to time. Once I figured out how to cook with and maintain the cast iron I haven’t looked back. I have some enameled stuff too. I agree with processhead that I like the older CI. Some of the newer boutique stuff looks nice but the older CI works like a champ for a lot less $.
YooperDog yep. I am very drawn to the old stuff. That old Griswold in my picture is so non stick you would swear its teflon!
processhead I didn’t notice until I zoomed in that the cast alloy dutch oven is hammertone as well! That is awesome!
NDMike I use my 8 Griswald as my go to skillet. I have collected and inherited various sizes over the years, but the Griswald was my Mom’s and has sentimental value. I also used Dutch ovens and a kettle with a tripod my son blacksmithed for me. Its hard to beat good cast iron cookware. My youngest son is a great cook and hardly uses anything but cast iron. Cowboy Kent does have some great YouTube vids!
NDMike I watch Kent, as well as Sam The Cookimg Guy.
Tex_77 early start for you too tex! Off to work, would much rather be home making a different flavor of sticks right now
GWG8541 awesome! This is such a cool group of people.
Tex_77 hahaha…me too!
processhead yep, I can when I get home after work. It needs to be seasoned as my wife’s aunt didn’t take the best care of it. Little bit of surface/flash rust on it.
