RE: What did everyone cook today?
These beef ribs are really tasty. Just like eating prime rib eye, but not enough & just falls off the bone. Got some on sale last week at Piggly Wiggly for just under $2.00 a pound.

Well, I had to do something so here are some smoke chicken wings with Butter Beans from a few weeks ago. The Butter Beans are Dried Jackson Wonders from Last Year’s Garden. They were really good!

Or, you could go uptown a bit & clean the freezer out for some Smoked Spatchcock Turkey with Summer stuffing, & can’t help them mashed taters & giblet gravy.

RE: What did everyone cook today?
Broke the beast (old style, manual #32 Grinder) out of his cage as it is time for some Dave’s Damned Good Chili & made a sack full of homemade meatballs to freeze up too. Grinden a good bit of beef with several sales on clod, sirloin, & pork shoulder. Gonna be eatten that chili for a few days with corn bread, & just in time for some low 30/high 20 degree weather. Will be washin it down with a little bit of Old Forrester 101 & Buffalo Rock with a little bit of Lemon. Gotta have a little sunshine!

PapaSop How did you like that Blonde? I found some stuff from up your way when on the road the other day. Leinenkugel’s Vanilla Porter & Toasted Bock. Not bad at all. I had never seen those before & definitely not locally.

ksbowman83 Welcome to the neighborhood. Yes, you definitely have an advantage with being so close to Walton’s too. I would probably be in deep trouble if I were that close! Remember, go BLUE & enjoy the BLUE life.

RE: Roll Call (Start Here First)
LeafLard333 Now you are the kind of guy (& gal) we need in the neighborhood, welcome. That walk in cooler sounds amazing. Funny thing, I have an antique smoke house if you want to call it that. I have what once was the smoke house on this property that they used to hang hams, sausages, & meats in back in the late 1800s/early 1900s as I understand it. I tried to restore it years ago, as best possible. I was not very successful in being totally correct due to finding the right siding profile to match the original. I ended up having to just create sections of original with sections of newer. Unfortunately, I converted it to our chicken house as we do not do a whole lot of that type of smoking & it was perfect for the chicken house. Sometimes though, I think of reconverting it back to the smoke house. I am sure that was not what you had in mind, but could not help but tell the story.

RE: What did everyone cook today?
Jonathon For God’s sake, do not discard that beautiful thing, if you think you want to ever, call me! Other than the 50/50 vinegar bath, rinse, & baking soda bath to neutralize, I am thinking keep it away from liquids as cast iron is porous. I would think a light blast or walnut shell blast would do it best (after dismantling & taking lots of step by step photos). I use a bench mounted wire wheel too for restoration of that type & it gives the best results, but it will be hard to get into all the crevasses at the exterior of that beautiful slicer. There is a guy in Pittsburg that I have used more recently for for blasting & powder coating projects that does good work for a fair price, even with shipping (compared to local). For the exterior finish I just want to say light oil & keep it dry. You could also consider powder coating the exterior non moving parts. Take the wood handle off first, clean with murphy oil soap, dry very well & soak in boiled linseed oil while you are working on the metal. I know we all can’t wait to see that thing when you finish.
